Why the laser?

Laser hair removal is the only method of hair removal that allows for permanent removal of unwanted hair from the face and body for individuals seeking personalized and effective medical treatments. It is one of the most long-lasting and cost-effective solutions in the long term when evaluating the number of products and effort needed throughout a lifetime to achieve smooth, hair-free skin.

Why the laser?

Laser hair removal works by controlled heating of the hair matrix, preventing it from regrowing. This thermal action results in a lasting destruction of the hair follicle, thus preventing hair growth. Among the most notable technologies in this field are the Diode Laser, Alexandrite Laser, and Nd YAG, each with particular characteristics that make them more suitable for different types of skin and hair colour. All skin types can be treated with medical lasers.

Dr. Guzman’s equipment allows the use of different laser frequencies: 755 nm, 808 nm, and 1064 nm. The application of all these frequencies enables hair removal suitable for all skin types, acting on different layers of the skin deeply to eliminate all types of hair follicles.

What is Alexandrite laser hair removal?

The Alexandrite laser operates at a short wavelength of 755 nm, making it very effective for individuals with light skin and dark hair. The high melanin (hair pigment) absorption quality of the Alexandrite laser allows for long-term hair removal, as it precisely targets the hair without significantly affecting the surrounding skin. A cooling system is incorporated to protect the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, during treatment, for a more comfortable and painless laser session.

What are the advantages of Alexandrite laser?

79% reduction in treated areas after just 3 sessions. For this reason, it offers highly satisfactory results for both women and men.
It is the most effective and reliable laser for light skins, phototypes I to IV which are not recently tanned.

It allows for the removal of fine and light hairs.

It is a laser that allows the treatment of large areas or multiple areas quickly in a single session.

What is diode laser?

The diode laser uses a beam of light with a wavelength around 808 nm, allowing it to penetrate the skin and capture melanin safely and powerfully. This wavelength, with an appropriate pulse frequency, makes it ideal for treating hair follicles in individuals with dark skin or thick hair.

The light beam of the diode laser will capture melanin, generating heat and destroying the hair follicle, while the surrounding tissues are respected and protected by the integrated cooling system.

What are the advantages of the Diode Laser?

It is a fast and effective treatment for treating large areas or combining multiple areas at the same time.

Safe and accurate for individuals with dark skin of phototypes III and IV, as the wavelength is longer, increasing its affinity for hair melanin rather than the epidermis.

It allows for the treatment of thick and fine hairs with a standard frequency for all hair types.

It is very useful in sensitive areas such as the groin or inner thighs, or for individuals with low laser tolerance as it allows for energy reduction with a high repetition rate, meaning thermal damage through gradual heating of the hair follicle only with lower skin temperature around it.

What is NdYAG Laser?

The NdYAG laser (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) or Neodymium-Yag produces a laser emission with wavelengths of 1064 nm, meaning it emits in the infrared, allowing it to penetrate the skin better and reach deep hair. This particularity allows its safe use on all skin types, especially on dark skins. Thanks to its fast repetition system, large areas of the body can be treated quickly and effectively. It is not as efficient on light and fine hairs, which is why other alternatives are necessary.

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Facial Hair Removal?

Unlike laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) consists of the combination of different laser wavelengths, like a camera flash, being a versatile option for facial hair removal. The use of different wavelengths allows treating different skin conditions, not only capturing hair melanin.

This is interesting if one wants to treat fine hairs on light skin. Since there are multiple wavelengths involved, multiple sessions are required to achieve the desired goal. Other conditions that can be treated due to their ability to capture skin melanin include sunspots, skin redness or rosacea, and localized blood vessels, such as those at the base of the nose (telangiectasias).

How do I start my laser hair removal treatment with Dr. Guzman in Paris?

To begin your personalized treatment, you need a first advisory consultation that is free of charge. During this appointment, the characteristics of your skin type or phototype and hair type will be analysed to choose the most suitable treatment protocol. We must consider your needs, medical history, the types of techniques you have used in the past, and if you have already had previous laser hair removal sessions.

What equipment does Dr. Guzman have for my laser hair removal treatment in Paris?

To optimize the results of your hair removal to the maximum, it is essential to have updated and certified equipment for their safety. That is why at the Medical Center, we have equipment in which the three laser wavelength frequencies (755 nm, 808 nm, and 1064 nm) can be used combined or dissociated. This innovation is remarkable for its powerful, safe, and fast action on all types of skin in both men and women, and on all types of fine and thick hair. Additionally, we have intense pulsed light (IPL) technology indicated for medical use hair removal.

How many sessions are needed for satisfactory laser hair removal results with Dr. Guzmán in Paris?

After evaluating your needs, skin type, hair characteristics, and the area(s) to be treated, with the first 6-8 sessions, more than 90% of the hair will surely be removed.

Up to 12 sessions may be needed in individuals with higher hair density. It should be noted that it is recommended to have touch-up sessions around 2 to 3 sessions , spaced 6 months apart at a minimum, to permanently eliminate hair.

In hormone-dependent areas such as the female face or beard, back, torso, and abdomen of men, spaced maintenance sessions over time are necessary.

What are the body areas that respond best to laser hair removal treatment?

In general, almost all areas of the body where there is hair can be treated with laser.

However, for safety reasons, the lower edge of the eyebrows should not be treated as it is very close to the eye. Results are visible from the first sessions in the groin, pubic area, and legs, while the armpits may require a little more time. Other areas in men such as the beard, back, and chest require more sessions, followed by maintenance sessions to eliminate new hairs that may appear over the years.

How should I prepare before a laser hair removal session?

Ideally, the skin should not be tanned. If you have been sunbathing, it is recommended to wait at least one month before having the laser hair removal session, and two months for darker skin types.

It should be noted that tanned skin reduces the effectiveness of the treatment, as the light beam will disperse into the melanin or pigment of the skin, which is more abundant in the superficial layer of the skin or epidermis and not in the hair follicle.

Tanned skin can increase the risk of superficial burns, which resolve spontaneously within a few days but should be avoided. Do not shave for 3 to 4 days, not immediately before the treatment, and do not use alcohol-based products such as creams or hygiene products or depilatory creams.

What happens during my laser hair removal session?

Once your diagnostic consultation is done, during which we have learned about your medical history, hair removal history, and treatment stage. We have also studied your skin type, the area(s) to be treated, hair type, and explained treatment expectations, we can proceed with your session.

Laser hair removal is a well-tolerated treatment, as modern equipment uses a simultaneous cooling system that reduces any discomfort during the session. Some people may experience more discomfort than others and prefer to undergo the treatment with the application of numbing cream (45 minutes before the session).

The use of glasses or eye protection devices, both for the person receiving the treatment and the one administering it, must be mandatory. The most appropriate parameters are selected based on your skin type and hair characteristics. Some test shots are necessary to study the tolerance and effectiveness of the treatment. Once the parameters are adjusted, the necessary shots are taken to cover the area to be treated with the laser. At the end of the session, the application of an aloe vera gel will be necessary to soothe the skin. Your next appointment will be scheduled between 8 and 10 weeks.

How long does a laser hair removal session last?

Generally, laser hair removal sessions are quick. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes for the armpits, 15 minutes for the groin area, and 30 to 40 minutes for the half legs.

What can I expect after a laser hair removal session?

After the session, it is normal for the skin to have a slight redness, which will disappear by the next day. When a very thick hair has been treated, there may be peri-follicular oedema, meaning a slight temporary inflammation around each hair follicle. This indicates that the treatment has been significantly effective.

In some areas, small black spots may appear a few days after the session. These are residual dead hairs that are about to fall out. After a laser hair removal session, it is not recommended to expose the skin to the sun for 48 to 72 hours.

You may remain hairless for nearly two months, then before your next session, some finer hairs begin to reappear.

For your next laser hair removal session, we recommend not shaving this time as we need to evaluate the quality and location of the hair. As the treatment progresses, the intervals between sessions will be spaced out.

How are the results of my laser hair removal treatment?

The results of laser hair removal are magnificent. As the sessions progress, the skin remains hairless for longer periods. The regrowth of hair becomes increasingly reduced. The skin is smoother, without red spots, folliculitis, or irregularities.
