WHAT’S NEW FOR POST-SURGICAL SCARS ?
WHAT’S NEW FOR POST-SURGICAL SCARS ?
For some time now we have a new medical device, the UrgoTouch laser®, designed to improve the appearance of post-surgical scars.
Dr. Guzman is delighted to count with this technology to increase the chances of having a beautiful scar after plastic surgery, either in aesthetics or in reconstructive surgery.
BREAST AUGMENTATION – SURGICAL SCARS
The scars are placed in the natural breast areas where the scar can be easily hidden as: inframammary fold, around or inside the areola or under the arm.
The scar process begins at the closure of the surgical incision.
A nice surgical closing technique by Dr. Guzman ensures a good quality scar, although the scar could be discreet and aesthetic, the resulting scar is unpredictable and random, it depends on everyone.
It is the biological characteristics of each one that will determine the future scar.
The scar will evolve in time, the first three months are very important, because the healing process is very active, the scar is red, hard, elevated, but above all, very sensitive to the Sun, for this reason the first three to six months , it must be protected from dangerous UV rays that may pigmented.
After 6 months, the scar begins to fade, to become almost imperceptible at the level of anatomic folds.
The scar process in general finishes between 12 and 18 months, which is why appropriate treatments and massages will be advised by Dr. Guzman to improve the appearance of scars.
It is important to know that it is possible to influence the scar result, a discreet scar can certainly be further improved by the laser technology Urgotouch®, the scar cannot disappear altogether.
The scar treatment with the laser Urgotouch® is carried out at the operating theatre at the end of the surgical procedure once the suturing has been completed. Still under anesthesia, you will not experience any pain.
The application of the Urgotouch laser® on the scar is carried out at once, regular dressings will protect it and keep it dry.
CAN I BENEFIT FROM THE URGOTOUCH LASER TREATMENT® ON MY BREAST AUGMENTATION POST SCAR?
To be able to benefit from the treatment certain precautions are to be taken before any surgery, which will be discussed with Dr. Guzman.
Among the elements to be considered in order to determine the patient’s eligibility for UrgoTouch® treatment, Dr. Guzman will be interested in the following:
history of dermatologic conditions, inflammatory skin disorders, scarring disorders, autoimmune diseases, herpes simplex virus type infection.
treatments taken by the patient that can interfere with his scar process and/or with a laser treatment at 1210nm.
absence of implants, prostheses, tattoos that can interfere with heated tissues.
I’M A MINOR. CAN I BENEFIT FROM THE URGOTOUCH® TREATMENT?
There is no contraindication to benefit from the UrgoTouch® treatment by being a minor. However, UrgoTouch should not be used:
In pregnant or breastfeeding women,
In infants and children under 2 years of age.
In the absence of clinical data, it is not recommended to use the UrgoTouch® system in children and adolescents.
IS THERE A RISK? ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Some non-specific side effects may occur, irrespective of the laser, after any surgical procedure during which an incision of the skin tegument is performed:
swelling, edema, bruising, necrosis, suture opening, superficial or deep skin infection, pain, itching, bleeding, hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation of the scar, scarring anomalies ranging from the non-aesthetic scar to the keloid one.
Some local adverse events, specific to the use of any non-ablative laser, may also be observed:
edema related to the vasodilation induced by the thermal effect of the laser. This phenomenon resolves spontaneously in 2-3 days.
Erythema, in relation to the vasodilation of the vessels induced by the thermal effect of the laser. It also resolves spontaneously in less than 5 days.
transient post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation often due to sun exposure after treatment, it can be spontaneous in dark phototypes.
The resolution usually occurs within a few weeks. Sun protection is unavoidable and depigmenting creams can be used if necessary.
WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN AFTER SURGERY FOR THE SCAR?
After the intervention, you must follow the recommendations provided by Dr. Guzman, especially scar exposure to the light should be avoided as much as possible and it is recommended to use high protection sun protections ( minimum SPF 50) until the scar tissue matures, as well as to hydrate the area concerned.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS?
Only your surgeon will be able to determine if the UrgoTouch® procedure is appropriate for your case.
WHAT IS THE PRICE OF URGOTOUCH® TREATMENT?
Dr. Guzman will tell you the cost of the UrgoTouch® treatment during your consultation.
Your surgeon uses a new, unique laser technology that is used just after the surgical suture in order to improve the post-surgical scar result.
